Scott’s practice is both transactional and litigation in nature.  He advises entrepreneurs on issues relating to starting and operating businesses.  He also advises businesses on company policy, contract, employment law, copyright, and trademark issues.  He assists clients with their estate planning needs and families probating the estate of a deceased family member.

As part of his litigation practice, he has represented business owners involved in internal business disputes, and employers sued for allegedly violating employment and anti-discrimination laws.  He has also defended municipalities, their officials, and employees against civil rights and employment-related claims.  Prior to joining the firm, Scott served as a staff attorney to Judge Joseph R. Huddleston of the Kentucky Court of Appeals.  He has used that experience in representing clients in appeals in state and federal courts.  He has argued cases before the Kentucky Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

Since being admitted to the bar, Scott has been continuously active in bar associations at the national, state, and local levels.  He currently serves as the Communications Director for the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and as the District Representative for District 16, which encompasses Kentucky and Tennessee, on the ABA YLD Council.  He has had the privilege on being appointed by two different presiding officers to serve as parliamentarian to the ABA Young Lawyers Division Assembly.  He was recognized as a 2006-07 Star of the Year by the Chair of the ABA Young Lawyers Division for his work as Editor in Chief of The Affiliate, a publication for local and state bar leaders.  He has also been active in the ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division, and he served for several years as an assistant editor of one of its publications and authored several articles.

In Kentucky, Scott has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Section since 2001.  He currently serves as the Chair of the KBA Young Lawyers Section and on the KBA Board of Governors.  He also serves as Chair of the KBA Civil Litigation Section.  In 2007-08 bar year, he was appointed to serve on the KBA Budget & Finance Committee.

Locally, Scott presently serves on the Board of the Directors of the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association.  In 2002, he and a small group of local attorneys formed the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, and he served as its Chair from 2004-05.  He currently serves as Trustee/Treasurer of the Warren County Law Library Board of Trustees.

In 2006, he was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.  Membership in the Fellows is limited to one-third of one percent of practicing attorneys in each jurisdiction, and Fellows are selected based upon their service to the legal profession and their communities.

Scott’s civic interests focus on educating the community about government and our legal system.  Since 1999, he has been an adjunct professor at Western Kentucky University, where he teaches a course on the legal environment of business for business-related majors.  He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Bowling Green, in which he is active in and chaired the organization’s annual Soap Box Derby race and has served on the organization’s board of directors.  He has also been a volunteer with the annual campaign for the United Way of Southern Kentucky and serves on its Investment Committee.  He is a graduate of Leadership Bowling Green and has served as President of the Leadership Bowling Green Alumni Association, Inc.  In 2007, he received the Leadership Bowling Green Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

In addition to his legal experience, Scott has a master’s degree in public administration.  At the age of 20, he served as an alderman on the Platteville Common Council in Platteville, Wisconsin, for over two years.
